Mikaela Nyman is a New Zealand writer, born on the Åland islands in Finland. Her work has been published in New Zealand and overseas. In 2011-12, she lost her mother and sister and decided that she needed more creativeness in her life. She was lucky enough to be given the opportunity to discover another way of life in Vanuatu. Its people and its culture continue to be a source of great inspiration. Her account of land-diving in Pentecost, 'Perfecting the Art of Throwing Yourself at the Ground and Missing It', won the UK Travel Expert Writing Award 2014. The mixed media works 'Sister Series II' (2014) explores the joy and discovery of a new culture and environment, coloured by personal loss. The poem, 'Kava I Kik', was published in New Zealand literary journal Turbine in December 2014 - it seemed to sing out for a lino print as a companion piece.
