We are excited to present the programme of the 14th edition ! An opportunity to unveil the big themes of this great event about African cinema !

With the theme "Regards" (Looks), the 14th edition is once again committed to cultural diversity and invites the audience to take a closer look at social, cultural and artistic realities by proposing some fifty films, fictions and documentaries, short and feature films as well as virtual reality, made by filmmakers from the continent and the African diaspora.


Panorama
At the heart of the programme, this section features recent films, most of which have never been released before. Through a wide range of strong and original works, the audience will discover stories, emotions and images that are not found anywhere else on the screens.

Retrospective
Known to the general public for his activity as a dubbing artist, Med Hondo is an essential figure in African and Anti-colonialist cinema. Born in Mauritania, from of a family of freed slaves, he arrived in Marseille in 1958 where he developed a passion for theatre and cinema, and a political awareness deeply imbued with Marxism. His filmography questions the relationship between the peoples of Africa and their former colonizers. The themes of racism, emancipation and social justice lie at the heart of his work.

Focus Chad
Mainly known through the films of Mahamat Saleh Haroun and Issa Serge Coélo, Chadian cinema is seeing the emergence of new filmmakers despite a lack of training schools and limited financial resources. The Festival highlights this young generation and will allow you to discover films that have never been seen before in Switzerland.

Carte blanche
A selection on the new wave of this fast-paced cinema, including Joël Karekezi's The Mercy of the Jungle, which won the Etalon d'Or at the 2019 Fespaco. In collaboration with the Mashariki African Film Festival, Kigali.

Photo exhibition
The Franco-Algerian-Tunisian photographer Ager Oueslati presents a photography exhibition entitled Héjira. A dedicated journalist, she is particularly touched by the reality of women's exile and proposes the series Exilées and Les refoulés. Through candid and authentic photographs, this exhibition highlights an rarely raised topic : the journey of sub-Saharan African women in migratory flows.

Round table "Music and cinema"
Dedicated to music in African films, the round table focus on the impact and importance of music in the aesthetics of contemporary African cinema. The debate addresses the artistic relationships between the composer, the musician and the director in the creation of the soundtrack.

Meeting : let's talk about cinema
A privileged and friendly moment of questions and exchanges of ideas with the Festival's guests. Invited to a small discussion laboratory, public and guests share precious moments for a better understanding of artistic creations and trends.

Virtual reality
Several short films are available through this media, which is on the rise and sees the emergence of many African creations. It gives spectators another way to see and look... an immersive experience.

A Concert, Friday night, for an evening of wild and captivating rhythms - Dj Sets every day in the last evening, good vibes throughout the Festival! - A Tent to gather around a glass and African culinary specialities - A Brunch on Sunday morning that will give you the opportunity to meet friends, festival guests and organizers to share cinematographic experiences in a moment of gastronomy.
