Gabonese actor, filmmaker.
Father of Gabonese Cinema, Philippe Mory is also one of the pioneers of sub-Saharian African cinema in general. He started his career as a theatrical actor. He plays his first protagonist rôle in the film On n'enterre pas le dimanche directed by Michel Drach, which won the Louis Delluc award in 1959. In 1962 he wrote the screenplay of La Cage directed by Robert Darène featuring Marina Vlady, Jean Servais and himself, which was the first feature film shot in Gabon. Philippe Mory has also acted in various other movies: Le Grand Blanc de Lambaréné directed by Bassek Ba Kobhio, Les Couilles De l'Éléphant by H. J. Koumba Bididi, Go Zomb'Olowiby Imunga Ivanga. As a film¬maker he directed Un enfant du village in 1978 and Les tam-tams se sont tus in 1971. Philippe Mory is at the origin of the creation of the National Cinema Institute of Gabon, CENACI.
