L'histoire d'un enfant nigérian, Angelo Soliman (1721-1796), est enlevé et vendu en Europe au 18e siècle, avant de devenir valet puis haut responsable franc-maçon.
A l'âge adulte, Angelo a pris de l'importance et il devient bientôt la mascotte de la cour de Vienne, jusqu'à ce qu'il décide d'épouser secrètement une femme blanche.
