Goethe-Institut Nigeria and the Lagos Film Society present AFRIDANCE. The mini-festival with the theme ‘Reinventing Áfrican Cinema' is curated and organized by independent Nigerian film critic and director Didi Cheeka.

All too often the term'African Cinema' erases all distinctions and conflates films from Africa into Francophone cinema, which stems from the exotic notion of Africa as Black, and as a country. The theme'Reinventing African Cinema' - from a statement by Djibril Diop Mambety - challenges this notion by presenting films from Africa in their narrative diversity. Afridance offers an exciting mix of screenings and conversations around topics like Invisible Girls, Violent Boys: Africa's Gangster Cinema. The screenings will hold at multiple venues across Lagos.

Supported by Ayo Bankole Centre for the Arts and Cultural Expression, Institut Francais, National Stadium Lagos and the Nigerian Film Corporation, Ikoyi.

Entry is free!
