Vincent Glès was born in Abidjan, Ivory Coast. After working as a film and video director at the state-owned television station in Ivory Coast, he moved to France where he studied film at the Institut des Arts Appliqués. He then worked for the Assedic, a social organization, where he was a film consultant. Glès arrived in North America in 1981 to pursue his film studies at the Université de Montréal. In 1982, he directed the award-winning documentary La Saint-Jean en Côte d'Ivoire. Glès founded Les Productions du Griot in 1993. He also teaches the techniques of animation cinema.
