Valérie is a French documentary filmmaker. After a B.A. in History, she settles in Dakar, Senegal, where she graduated a Master in Journalism about african films cinema distribution in West Africa. There, she worked as a radio presenter and reporter, as well as a free lance journalist for french medias. She also directed a short documentary about deaf people dumutized, and another one (in 16mm) with Senegalese people expelled from France after a change of the immigration laws.
Since then, she focused her researches on post colonial identity.
Back in Paris, Valérie attended a one year course on scriptwriting at the Femis (French national film School).
She then completed co-directing her first tv documentary, "Cameroon : Autopsy of an independence", with Gaëlle Le Roy. The film won the audience award at the International Historical Film Festival of Pessac [France] and provoked a national debate in Cameroon.
National Identity, her first feature length film about French institutional racism, screened in 15 festivals and was edited in DVD and VOD as well as in streaming on big news websites.
Early 2014, she completed a short film about collective history vs personal memory, Afterwards.
Both her last 2 films were produced by Granit films.
In 2016 and 2017, Valérie Osouf produced a portrait of the filmmaker Abderrahmane Sissako within the Petit Dragon, Emmanuelle Lepers' company, whose 52-minute version was broadcast on Arte on 24 May 2017.
Valérie is currently developing two projects: a museum installation, Colonial Remix co-produced by Gaëlle Jones at Perspective Films and Le Tout-Monde, a feature-length documentary for cinema, co-produced by Emmanuelle Lepers, with which she continues on her way.
