Photographer and videographer Sara Gouveia (Portugal) has a MA in photography from the University of Bolton (England) and Dalian University (China). Her work has been published and exhibited internationally. She is part of the Cape Town-based audiovisual performance-art project Darkroom Collective.

Sara Gouveia is an award-winning filmmaker. She has worked as a writer, director and cinematographer in feature and short documentaries, commercials, online campaigns and music videos.

Sara's first feature-length documentary "The Sound of Masks", set in Mozambique, had its World Premiere at IDFA 2018 and was officially selected for Hot Docs 2019, New York African Film Festival, the Durban International Film Festival and DocLisboa. The film received the award for Best Feature Documentary at the Plateau International Film Festival 2019 as well as the 14th SAFTA Awards 2020 for Best Achievement in Cinematography in a Documentary.

Sara's documentary "Mother to Mother" premiered during the 2020 Encounters South African International Documentary Festival where it received the second prize in the Adiaha Award for Best Documentary Film and it has been broadcast on Showmax. Sara is in post-production with the short documentary "Like Water" and in development with "The House Is Burning".
