Katia Kameli, geboren 1973 in Clermont-Ferrand, Frankreich, lebt und arbeitet in Paris. Nach diversen Studienaufenthalten in Greenwich, Wien und Bourges schloss sie ihr Kunststudium an der dortigen Kunst-akademie ab und erwarb anschließend ein Zusatzdiplom am "Collège-Invisible" der Kunstakademie in Marseille. Verschiedene Kulturen zu passieren und darin zu zirkulieren, diverse Referenzen zu assoziieren und die Kategorien zu vermischen, kurzum das Nomadentum, das Wechseln von einem Denksystem in ein anderes, stehen im Zentrum der Arbeiten der Künstlerin. Von der Installation (Nomadic Utopia) zum Elektropop (Collectif EchoparK), über Digitalbilder, Skulpturen, Photographien und Videokunst, die heterogenen Arbeiten von Katia Kameli verdeutlichen diese Art der Verschiebung und entwickeln eine transkulturelle Sprache. 2006 leitete Katia Kameli die Produktion von mehreren Kurzfilmen in Algier, die, wie ihre eigenen Werke, auf zahlreichen Festivals und Ausstellungen im In- und Ausland zu sehen sind.

Katia KAMELI lives and works in Paris.

She is a Franco-Algerian artist and filmmaker whose practice is marked by the exploration of multiplicity and the in-between. In her video, photography and sculpture work, the artist investigates intercultural spaces, intersecting identities and their construction. As she herself says: "Fluxes of people are automatically creating hybridisations, indeed new spaces, thoughts and situations."

Katia received her post graduate degree in 2003 from Ecole Supérieure des Beaux-Arts, Marseille after graduating from the Ecole Nationale des Beaux-Arts, Bourges in 2000. Her film project Bledi in Progress has been featured in numerous festivals: 2007 - Cinema Lux, Caen; Kinokho, Paris; 2006 - Festival de Clermont Ferrand; Bienal Internacional de Arte de Sevilla, et.al.) Recent exhibitions include: 2007, Bienal de Jafre, Spain; 2006, Glassbox Paris; The Photographer's Gallery, London; Rush Arts Gallery, New York.
