James Kela is a contemporary painter. He comes from the Chimbu area, of the Highlands province in Papua New Guinea. He's part of the "street painters" in Port-Moresby that sell their arts on the street, most of them are paintings on canvas. He speaks English, tok pisin and his native language. His paintings are identifiable by the theme he uses : he always paints women or men dancing. His dancers are colorful, with patterns and ornaments coming from Highlands province and Lapita representations.
