Ghislain TSHIKENDWA MATADI

Son of Hubert MATADI (deceased) and Anastasie ZANGIYO (living), Ghislain Tshikendwa Matadi is a priest of the Society of Jesus (Jesuits). Born on April 20, 1965, Ghislain Tshikendwa was proclaimed a doctor of social sciences (sociology) on December 12, 2014 at the Gregorian University of Rome. Holder of a degree in Rural Development (social organization option) from the Higher Institute of Rural Development of Bukavu, a degree in biblical theology from the JESUIT SCHOOL OF THEOLOGY AT BERKELEY, USA, and a degree in philosophy from the Faculty of Saint-Pierre Canisius of Kimwenza, he is a writer, author of four books and several articles. One of these latest books, a novel, Le Départ, was released on October 1, 2018 at Les Jets d'encre, France. He is preparing several books, which are scheduled for release in 2023 by Editions CETED.
From 2008 to 2011, Ghislain Tshikendwa was Coordinator of the African Jesuit Social Research Centers. As part of this responsibility, he traveled to India, Brazil and several European and African countries for sessions and conferences. The first African Jesuit to assume the responsibility of Deputy Editor-in-Chief (2004-2006) and Editor-in-Chief and Publisher of the journal Congo-Afrique (2007-2009), Professor TSHIKENDWA participated in the Nairobi Social Forum in Kenya (2007) and then Belém in Brazil (2009).
Passionate about writing and social communication, he was director of the Magazine Renaître and the DIA Agency, organs of the National Episcopal Conference of Congo from 2009 to 2011. As a student of philosophy at the Faculty of Saint-Pierre Canisius in Kimwenza, he directed the journal Afrique d'Espérance and, as a student at the Minor Seminary of Laba, he was editor-inchief of the Revue Tam-tam de Laba. As a graduate student at the Higher Institute of Rural Development in Mbeo, Ghislain Tshikendwa was director of the newspaper Presse Universitaire de Mbeo (PUM).
Anxious to conduct high-quality quantitative and qualitative research, Ghislain Tshikendwa participated during his doctoral studies at the Gregorian University of Rome in three summer courses on social science methods, including one organized by the CNRS/France. His passion for research and for the world of knowledge explains his membership of three international scientific associations: American Biblical Association, African Biblical Association and Prospective Anthropology Laboratory of the Catholic University of Louvain/Belgium.
His area of research is rural, urban and pre-urban development, African culture, family, politics, social housing and the Social Teaching of the Church. One of its major concerns is to train young people in good writing and rigorous analysis of the most ordinary social facts. For several years, he has been promoting the concept of the sociology of banality.
He is currently coordinator of the Teilhard de Chardin Center (CETEC) at the University of Djuma

0358/MINESU/CAB.MIN/MNB/RMM/MKK/2021 of November 22, 2021 by the Minister of higher Education, Ghislain TSHIKENDWA Matadi teaches sociology at the Catholic University of Congo, at the Loyola University of Congo, at the University of Djuma and at the National Pedagogical University. Since September 2022, he has a Visiting Professor at Sophia University in Tokyo, Japan.
