Édouard MONTOUTE was born in Cayenne, French Guiana, an Oversea French Territory. He is an actor known for "Femme fatale" (Brian de Palma), "Taxi" (Luc Besson) and "La Haine" (Mathieu Kassovitz).

Attracted by acting, Edouard Montoute was enrolled in a free class at Cours Florent. He first appeared on screen in 1989 in "Jean Galmot", a film shot in French Guiana. His first roles came from a new generation of filmmakers, including Olivier Assayas, who directed "Paris S'éveille/Paris Awakens", "J'irai Au Paradis/I'll go to Heaven" by Xavier Durringer, and "La Haine/Hate" directed by Mathieu Kassovitz. He gained popularity by playing in the football series "Goal" in 1992 where he met Frédéric Diefenthal, an actor with whom he shared many shoots in his career. He played the character Alain as the cop friend in the four-series "Taxi" saga. He is particularly famous in comic book register such as "Asterix and Obelix: Mission Cléopâtre". He appeared in the buddy movies "La Voie est Libre/The Coast is Clear" by Stéphane Clavier, "Our Friends the Cops" directed by Bob Swaim and "Before it is too late" by Laurent Dussaux. He also makes appearances on television series like "Flics/Cops" and "Les Toqués/The Goofs". More recently, we have seen Edouard Montoute in "Les Petits Mouchoirs/Little White Lies" by Guillaume Canet.

In 2018, Edouard Montoute made his directorial debut with a classic but revisited "Ma Dame au Camelia/The Lady of the Camelia" in which he also played.
