Chaba Zahouania, real name Halima Mazzi, born May 15, 1959 in Oran is an Algerian singer of Raï music.

Cheba Zahouania was born in Oran, she began her career as a singer in a female ensemble of medahates (or maddahât, singular meddaha, are Algerian female vocal ensembles which liven up family celebrations in Oranie). In 1981, she made her first recording. In 1986, she had her first Raï success with "Khali Ya Khali" (my uncle, oh my uncle) which she sang in a duet with Cheb Hamid.

The day after the assassination of her friend Cheb Hasni in Oran on September 29, 1994, she decided to leave Algeria for a while and moved to France.

In 1999, she returned to Algeria and performed numerous duets with Raï stars, including Cheb Abdou.

In 2005, she was offered a stay in Mecca by Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika to make her first pilgrimage. In 2006, she began to sing about her religious experience in Mecca. Love and "social" as they say in Algeria, remain Zahouania's two "battle songs".

She is the only singer who has had experience in the three statuses of Oranie singer: Meddaha, Chikha (a more lucrative, but marginal profession) and a Chaba (young performer of Raï).
