Ato Kwamena Dadzie

People often ask: "who the heck is this Ato guy? What has he got?" 
Usually it's the politicians and those whose feet I occasionally (and accidentally) step on who ask. My answer to them is quite simple. I'm nobody, really. And I have nothing. Absolutely nothing! But I'm working on that. I am looking forward to the day when my assets will fill about half an A-4 sheet.

I was born on January 8, 1977 in Essikado, near Sekondi-Takoradi. Some people even think it's a suburb of Sekondi-Takoradi. But let's not get into that. I'm not very well-educated but, at least, I'm luckier than most Ghanaians and I have the basics. I can read and write, add and subtract. I can even solve some 'Sudoku' puzzles.

Former Information Minister, Oboshie Sai-Coffie called me "Ghana's most irreverent journalist". I really liked that. It's my only badge of (dis)honour and I wear it with great pride. My mum is a retired 'bofrote' seller and my dad has been out of work for a long time. I'm an only-child. But I have a lot of 'brothers and sisters' who are not blood-related.

In summary you can describe me thus: Graduate of the University of Hard Knocks with two Master's Degrees in Make things Happen' and 'Don't worry be Happy'. Liberal. Optimistic pessimist (constantly hoping for the best, but always prepared for the worst). Irreverent. Stubborn. Loyal. Hard (but not impossible) to please. Enemy of stupidity... I am whatever you think I am.

Finally, I love Whitney Houston's words: "I am not afraid to try it on my own. I don't care if I'm right or wrong. I'll live my life the way I feel; no matter what I'll keep it real..." And so I hope that after reading these blogs, you'd come away with the impression that, in the words of Sir Edward Dyer, "I fear no foe, I fawn no friend; I loathe not life nor dread my end".
