Mufakose Traditional dance group Shingai won the Chibuku Neshamwari traditional dance Harare provincial finals held at Zebra Bar in Mbare.
Their winning dance "Chinyambera" used to be performed by hunters in the past as they celebrated successful missions in the bush.
It was during the celebrations when they would call their wives and dance together.
The group walked away with $500 while the second winners Pasichigare from Glen View whose type of dance was Muchongoyo pocketed $300.
A Nyau group Lilongwe 2 came third and went home $200 richer.
Other groups that participated in the competition were Madonzamakuru from Chitungwiza, Kondalani from Dzivaresekwa, Chigwirizano chaMalawi from Mabvuku, Kasani Moto from Nyabira, Karingazuva from Dzivaresekwa and Dedza Chitambudza from Mufakose.
The groups which were well prepared for the event battled to book their tickets in the finals to be held in Bulawayonext month.
Merrymakers were thrilled as several promotions empowered them with the popular chibuku brew called Supa.
Officials from National Arts Council of Zimbabwe Harare Province, Zimbabwe National Traditional Dancers Association (ZNTDA) and the official sponsor of the event Delta Beverages graced the event.
Winners of last year's event Chitukuko were the guest performers at the event that was well attended.
ZNTDA president Kennedy Kachuruka thanked the groups that performed, sponsors and NACZ for their commitment to preserve culture.
"We are grateful because with the help of the sponsors, NACZ and the groups that performed, we are grateful that people are willing to preserve our culture," said Kachuruka.
He said though the competition has brought thrills and excitements it has also given Zimbabweans knowledge of our culture.
Shingai group said they were happy to be the winners.
"We last reached finals in 2008 and we are happy to return the top position this year. We are now fighting to improve so that we win the finals in July," said a representative of the group.
