Ramil, 20 years old, has chosen to become a merchant seaman. As a student officer, he embarks for the first time on The African Forest, a huge cargo carrying wood and other goods between Africa and Europe. For almost a year, he will work and live amongst a cosmopolitan crew. From Andrei, a young Ukrainian officer, he will learn the job and the life that goes with it. A life where time, still at sea, speeds up on solid ground. Following Ramil, Andrei and the crew to the North and to the South, Sea is My Country provides an intimate look at this new generation of seamen, young and globalised.
A voyage on board the merchant marine ship African Forest, with its cosmopolitan crew, over return trips between Europe and Africa. A tri-media project from the Nantais Marc Picavez, with a film coproduced by Arte, an interactive experience coproduced by Once Upon, and the Seamen's Club exhibtion at LIFE in St Nazaire.
