The Vanuatu Cultural Centre and the Australian National University are co-hosting the 8th International Lapita Conference in Port Vila. Lapita is the name given to the cultural group of people that initially settled all of the Pacific Islands. Their pottery marks their places of settlement and can be find in the northern part of Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, New Caledonia, Fiji, Samoa and Tonga and they were the ancestors of the countries mentioned above, all of Polynesia and parts of Micronesia.  .
This conference is a major event for the archeology of the Pacific held every 4 years across the region. This year, over 100 specialists are expected to attend the conference in Port-Vila!
