The Cultural Arts Centre is a thriving hub for music and dance located on 5.5 hectares behind Tumaini University Makumira in the Arusha area.
CAC hosts 16 dancer/musicians who have given over 450 performances to date (3/2019) on and off campus for various public and private functions at local, national and international events. They draw on their various ethnic backgrounds, training, and experiences to create high-energy performances that feature many different types of music and dance from Tanzania, including traditional dances, newly created dances, and music pieces that fuse traditional and modern ideas. Festival highlights include representing Tanzania at Sauti za Busara in Zanzibar in 2017 and 2018, DOADOA East African Performers Market in Kampala in 2016 and 2019, and JAMAFEST Celebrating East African Culture in Nairobi in 2015.
We have also performed at various tourism events, including KiliFair in Moshi, Karibu Tourism Tanzania in Arusha, and S!TE in Dar es Salaam, plus other events for Tanzania Tourist Board and the Tanzania Association of Tour Operators. CAC has welcomed East African Presidents, Ministers and Ambassadors and presented at international conferences in Arusha and Moshi.
In November 2017 we completed construction of 4 buildings including a 435-seat performance space (including grand piano) with full dressing rooms, conference hall with catering facilities, a dance studio with a sprung dance floor, cultural exhibits and office space. In our Traditional Village local groups have constructed Maasai, Arusha and Meru bomas.
Currently we offer performances, workshops and rental of facilities and equipment:
Traditional dance/music performances onsite happen each Thursday 4-5 pm. For a group 20 or more paying persons a performance can be arranged for any day or time.
The group is available to perform at events or venues offsite, for example to greet guests at the airport, or at hotels. They can perform traditional or fusion (traditional plus electronic) music, and can provide all necessary equipment.
Workshops are available from our experienced artists on or off-site in traditional dancing, drumming, cooking, or making a drum.
CAC facilities include performance space (435 pax), conference hall (50-75 pax) or rooms (10-25 pax), and a full dance studio (96 sq mt) are available for rental.
