CKU is in collaboration with the The Royal Danish Embassy in Nairobi supporting the culture sector in Kenya  and a new programme phase has been prepared during 2014.



We are therefore pleased to announce that we are currently accepting applications for the position of Programme Officer for the new Kenya Culture and Development Programme.



The overall responsibilities for the position of Programme Officer include:




Coordinate the implementation, monitoring and evaluation processes of the CKU Cultural Development Programme in Kenya, including support to CKU partners in terms of project management, project design, implementation, reporting and financial management

Drive a process towards identification of capacity- and organizational development needs, and taking relevant initiatives responding to these needs

Ensure that programme activities are developed and executed in accordance with the strategic framework "The Right to Art and Culture" by the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs

Plan partnership, stakeholder and other relevant meetings, and reporting progress of activities to CKU program manager

Ensure local ownership and relevance of programme activities as a means to achieve programme sustainability

Remain abreast of developments in the arts, culture and development sector in Kenya

Facilitate contacts between Kenyan partners, local media and CKU Communications Unit.


Required skills and qualifications:  




In-depth knowledge about the arts and culture sector in Kenya and background in development work preferably with experience in human rights based approach

Good communication and time-management skills, team-working spirit, a pleasant disposition, and the ability to work independently in a results-oriented and flexible manner

Core competence in project management – in terms of project implementation, monitoring and evaluation

Experience with programme coordination involving many partners who require a varying degree of advice and support

Experience with identifying capacity development needs, and facilitating capacity development initiatives

Expertise in financial management, preferably from working with international development assistance or cultural organisations

Relevant university degree, preferably in the field of legal or social development and the like

Fluency in both written and spoken English and Kiswahili.


 Compensation and Commencement of Duties:




The position will begin 01-01-2015

The position is part time, 120 hours monthly over a one-year period, with possibility of extension.

CKU offers a standard salary (local level).

Occasional travel activity within the country is to be expected.

The country program officer will refer directly to the CKU Program Manager for East Africa (based in Copenhagen, Denmark), and work in co-operation with the Danish Representative in Kenya.
