Chinhoyi University of Technology is set to open its 2015 art showcase season in style today with an exhibition entitled 'We Create, Genesis'.The initiative is a first of its kind at the university and is expected to be graced by the head of Iran Cultural Centre in Zimbabwe Dr Mohsen Shojakhani, according to programme coordinator Garikai Chikoore.

"A total of 34 final year students from the school of art and design will take part in the exhibition. It is a group curated exhibition and will have students showcasing a few pieces each. The event will also pave way for various individually curated exhibitions by students throughout the year," said Chikoore.

He explained that the theme saying 'We Create' referred to the students that were showcasing creativity while 'Genesis' stood for how the exhibition was a first of its kind.

Invited guests, like the Chinhoyi mayor Test Michaels, Minister of State for Provincial Affairs in Mashonaland West Faber Edmond Chidarikire and executive director of National Gallery of Zimbabwe Doreen Sibanda are expected to witness the high levels of creative art by the cream of the art students.

The programme coordinator acknowledged how the university's products were standing out in the local arts.

He attributed this to their stance on art education.

"The kind of art tuition that we have trains the students on the importance of creative art. This is not common in the industry where art is regarded as trivial. It is a new thing that we are doing and because of that our students are vibrant in the arts sector," he said.
