Katalina Fotofili is a choreographer and dancer of Fijian and Tongan descent, based at the University of South Pacific in Fiji.
Katalina initially enrolled into the BSc program in Chemistry and Mathematics at the University of the South Pacific prior to discovering the Oceania Dance Theatre where she found a platform to express herself. There are many social issues that have impacted humanity negatively and through her work Katalina is reminded that her talents and the medium of performing arts can channel messages to other youths in building our nation and the region. She encourages youth to be more pro-active in the use of the arts in their approach to being catalysts for change. She has collaborated with several overseas choreographers including Indra Utama (Indonesia), Richard Digoue (Niyan Dance Theatre, New Caledonia), Cathy Livermore (New Zealand), Bernadette Walong (AUT, Australia) and Nirmala (India). She has toured with the Oceania Dance Theatre to Samoa (Silence & HIV/AIDS project), American Samoa (10th Festival of Pacific Arts) and China (for the inaugural Asia- Pacific Youth Arts Festival). In August 2007, Katalina created an original body of innovative choreographic movements accompanied by new and inventive musical composition titled Portal of Life. This contemporary dance/drama highlights current issues that reflect the fighting spirit of a young woman going through many problems, including discrimination, rape and the struggle for family support in the face of inequality and gender imbalance in a society such as Fiji.
