Saara Gafoor Ali is currently the youngest serving board member of the Art Society of Trinidad and Tobago. Born in Couva, Trinidad in 1979 to a Guyanese mother and Trinbagonian father Saara's childhood impressions were sown on the commercial side of her parents printing business.
A single three hour class in Holy Faith Convent, Couva would spark the curiosity of a 15 year old Saara. Particularly fond of sea and landscapes, she made scattered attempts woven from her imagination. It was a gift that would remain hidden for many years.
Early in 2009 she began to rediscover her creativity after spending a week in Caracas observing her aunt patiently working with oil paints. Upon her return she was ready to paint for the first time in oil.
She researched the old masters and their distinct styles, developing a great appreciation for Claude Monet and Vincent Van Gogh. This love is evident in her choice of palette.
Apart from the ASTT Board, Saara is currently committed to using art to stimulate the development of her country's children and youth.
