Rwandan filmmaker, screenwriter, actor and photographer. Remy RYUMUGABE is Actor, Cinematographer, Producer, Film Editor, Film Director, Photographer. He began his filmmaking career in 2011 through different workshops organized by different organizations like Goethe (German culture center) Kigali, Maisha foundation, Almond Tree films etc... He has directed different video and film projects for individual and Organizations and as assistant director and script supervisor he has worked on different film projects (MAGERAGERE/CITY DROPOUT, CROSSING LINES, IMFURA, THE WAITING etc...) that have been screened through different film festivals around the world like Africa in Motion, Leuven African film festival, Zanzibar international film festivals etc... He is also a part time teacher of pre-production and screenwriting at 94Hi film school, a small film school in Rwanda and he's also working with Mashariki African film festival as Head of programmation. He is very interested in works of different filmmakers mostly Avant-garde or experimental filmmakers. His experimental film "Aisa" has been officially selected at 14th edition of Dhaka independent and short film festival. His second short experimental film "Atta" is selected for P'silo Video library and his short "/ɪəri/" (2019) has been selected and screened in the international competition of the 21st Internationale Kurzfilmtage Winterthur. OTHER BIO Remy Ryumugabe is a Rwandan filmmaker/ visual artist. His works, including /ˈꞮƏRI/, Melpomene, and Mnemosyne among others, have been selected and exhibited at festivals around the world like the Internationale Kurzfilmtage Winterthur, Uppsala International Short Film Festival, Fribourg International Film Festival, International Kansk Video Festival, WNDX Festival of the Moving Image, BIDEODROMO International Experimental Film and Video Festival, Internationales Digitalkunst Festival, and Galerie Imane Farés. His latest two short films - "From Here to There", which he wrote and directed, and "Muzunga", which he produced - had their world premieres in the International Competition of the 68th International Short Film Festival Oberhausen. His short documentary film, "Each of Her Scars Has a Story" (2022), has been selected for the international short documentary strand of the 26th ÉCRANS NOIRS Film Festival, held from 1st to 8th October 2022 in Yaounde. He's the co-founder of KIRURI MFN, an independent production company based in Kigali. He is also the co-initiator and curator of 250 Film Experiment Cine-Club, a cine club based in Kigali, Rwanda.
