Daniel Okiror's African music can be traced back since 3 years of age when he first made a song called papa..ijaka (Father or Community leaders...who will help me) . From that onset its clear that his musical journey was going to be influenced / centred on his experiences growing up as an orphan. He became familiar with suffering and pain which he expressed in African blues. Growing up between the rural and slum, he listened to his uncles play akoogo, and grand parents play Ajosi, and without any one teaching him, he begun playing akoogo to the amazement of all who know him! He also learned Adungu as he was always eager to learn many other instruments like guitar and piano.
While in high school, he joined church praise and worship team from where he realized he did not just like music but he actually had a destiny as a maker of music and performer.
On joining Makerere university as Social Science student, he continued serving in the praise band of a college church when he got noticed by the pastor through the praise team leader, and given opportunity to enroll to missionary aided Africa Institute of Music.
His time in Music school became a turning point, a season of self discovery. He realized of his strong passion for and attachment to African Music as he clearly excelled in composing and performing with his akoogo compared to piano!
His music is highly influenced and identical to Fela Kuti, Salif Keita, Ayub Ogada, Oliver Mtukudzi, Suzanna Owiyo. In his latest Albums, he has worked with Melissa Asali, Olith Rateggo and Olova Makadem all who are visibly shining stars of Afro-fusion Music arising from Kenya.
Between 2009 and 2014 Debenon Okiror has performed in Kenya, Uganda, South Korea, Ethiopia, Israel, Netherlands. He has three albums; One lover 2009, Light in Africa 2012 and Emuria Koliai 2014 recorded in Kenya, Uganda and Belgium.
