Gamma was born in 1967 out of the dream of a handful of photographers. A dream of independence, responsibility, recognition and freedom. The events of the late 1960's gave a tremendous impulse to the young agency : May 1968, the war in Biafra, the Spring of Prague, the Vietnam War, the rise of private radio networks provided as innumerable stories the photographers of Gamma covered with passion.
35 years later, it is the same passion that continues to drive the photojournalists who have followed in the footsteps of their elders, working according to the tradition and ethics which have built the reputation of the agency.
Of course, the consistency of Gamma is best expressed over the years in the field of "hot news" of wars, conflicts, revolutions, of all the sudden jolts experienced by our planet, but also through carefully thought out magazine stories that point to the splendor and suffering of our world. The agency owes this ability to write in images to its staff photographers and contributors and also to all its collaborators who may have various fields of interest but who are all on the same quest for the image which will best encapsulate the moment.
