The space was designed to combine a conspicuously upscale restaurant with a posh theater coupled with a swanky/kitsch night club feeling. However, the space was better suited to theatre and the small unprofessional screen and lack of proper projection facilities or space indicated a lack of interest or, more likely, understanding for what was required for proper cinema projection. But the proprietor was banking on the creating a location whose very exclusiveness and sense of conspicuous extravagance would appeal across the board for festivals and film premieres, since this is something not available anywhere else. But depending upon the sensibility, for certain producers it is perhaps just what they are looking for and even the recent European Union festival with the key support of the French Embassy and others was held there with the usual technical setbacks and substandard projection.
