The Coal City Film Festival celebrates the originality of African cinematic expressions in the city that undoubtedly gave birth to Nollywood as we know it today. Enugu State, Nigeria, played a key role in welcoming the first filmmakers and provided filming locations in the early days of Africa's largest film industry and continued to do; what other way to repay the government, that to gather every year filmmakers from all over the world in this tourist city of such historical and archaeological importance for Nigeria and Africa as a whole.
The festival is an initiative of Okike Media with the aim to serve as a gateway to the heart of tourism potential in south-eastern Nigeria.
The FCFF is proud to offer activities that promote the appreciation of the art of film and educate local and regional filmmakers, film students, the broader arts community and the general public. It is an opportunity for independent filmmakers and the arts community as a whole to celebrate the beauty of the art of film.
The first edition took place in March 2021 with a large call for applications from local and international filmmakers. Since then, the CCFF has become an annual event, attracting even thousands of participants across the industry.
