The 16th ALFILM - Arab Film Festival Berlin will take place from April 23 to 29, 2025, across several Berlin venues. It will showcase a selection of feature films, documentaries, and short films addressing various contemporary themes.
The festival is structured around two main sections:
ALFILM Selection, highlighting the diversity of recent Arab cinema.
ALFILM Spotlight, this year focusing on speculative fiction and critical uses of archives in the (post)colonial context.
The opening film, "To a Land Unknown" by Mahdi Fleifel, follows the journey of two Palestinian cousins stranded in Greece, trying to reach Germany.
Among the featured films:
"Perfumed with Mint" (Muhammed Hamdy), set in a post-apocalyptic Cairo, exploring themes of memory and survival.
"My Memory Is Full of Ghosts" (Anas Zawahri), a documentary on Homs after the Syrian siege, illustrating the conflict's impact on the city and its residents.
In addition to screenings, the festival will offer master classes, panel discussions, and film talks, as well as a closing event.
