The Long Island Museum is the principal historic heritage conservation and preservation agency on that island. It is dedicated to the preservation and interpretation of the history and culture of Long Island and the wider Bahamas for the visitors and future generations.
A dream come true for the island residents and the members of the Long Islanders Association, the building which houses the Museum, Library and Community Centre was dedicated in 1986.
The exhibition Long Island Heritage and Culture: Dis We Tings, represents a cross section of the traditions of the people of Long Island. It gives a glimpse at life on Long Island beginning with pre-Columbian times to the present day. It attempts to look at the diversity of the communities from Seymour's and Newton's Cay in the north to Gordon's in the South. It remembers the people, their toils and joys, and most of all, their determination to leave a lasting legacy.
