REZA SERKANIAN was born in 1966 in Hamedan, Iran. He started making short films at 17 years old and obtained many awards in his country. He continued this career after studying cinema, and from 1989 on, his films have obtained recognition outside of Iran (Festivals such as: Clermont-Ferrand, Bilbao, Saarbrucken, Copenhagen, Amiens...). In 1993, he created the Hilaj Film Productions with his friend, director and producer Shahab Razavian (Best director - Tehran International Film Festival 2007). It is in 1997 that he decided to leave Iran in search of new horizons.
After 2 years in the Netherlands he settled in France where he has directed several short films and documentaries; notably "Reunion", a Franco-Iranian co-production. In parallel, he has developed a career as film editor and director of photography (We should not exist "On ne devrait pas exister" - Directors' Fortnight - Cannes Film Festival 2006).
In 2006, he returned to Iran while writing "Ephemeral Weddings". He is associate producer with Overlap Films, a new company created to handle the production of "Ephemeral Weddings".
