Kamran Rastegar composes and perfoms music while based in Edinburgh, UK. His work may be described as contemporary transnational music with links to Arabic and Iranian musical traditions. Having received his BA degree in musicology in 1992, Kamran began composing and performing with avant-garde musicians and rock groups in New York and San Francisco in the early 1990s. In this work he also gained a wide range of experience with audio recording and production. Kamran began scoring for films in the late 1990s, beginning with soundtracks for a number of short films including Annemarie Jacir's like twenty impossibles, and feature films including Until When (dir. Dahna Abou Rahme), Hopefully for the Best (dir. Raed al-Helou) and Whose Children are These (dir. Theresa Thanjan) among others.
His soundtrack works have been compiled and released by the award-winning world music record label, Hermes Records.
