African-American film Director and screenwriter.
DEE REES is an alumna of New York University's graduate film programme and a 2008 Sundance Screenwriting & Directing Lab Fellow. She has written and directed several short films, including Orange Bow and Pariah (2007). The latter screened at over 40 festivals worldwide, garnered 25 Best Short awards and was a finalist for the 2009 Sundance/NHK International Award. In 2008 Rees was selected as a Tribeca Institute/Renew Media Arts Fellow and named by Filmmaker Magazine as one of "25 New Faces of Independent Film". She was nominated for a USA Fellowship in 2009.

Pariah the feature world-premièred at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival and won the Excellence in Cinematography Award [U.S. Dramatic Competition].

The Nashville native's most recent short, Colonial Gods, aired on the BBC (2009) and chronicles a complicated friendship between a Somali man and a Nigerian man, and is set in Wales.

Rees directed and edited the documentary feature Eventual Salvation. It received a 2007 Sundance Documentary Fund Grant and premièred on the Sundance Channel in October 2009. It follows her grandmother's return to Liberia to help rebuild a community after the country's civil war.

United States Diplomatic Mission to South AfricaShe has worked as a script supervision intern on Spike Lee's documentary When the Levees Broke and feature Inside Man; and earned a Master's Degree in Business Administration from Florida A&M University.

Accomplishments
Dee Rees has received numerous awards for her narrative short Pariah, including accolades from the Palm Springs International Festival of Short Films and Outfest. She is currently finishing the documentary feature Eventual Salvation which was supported by Chicken & Egg Pictures and Tribeca All Access. Rees holds an MFA in Film & Television Production from New York University.
