Born in Kitwe, Zambia on the 25th February 1975, Abena has explored the world in her 31 years on this planet. Her family moved to Lesotho when she was five and later settled in the former Transkei where Abby (as she is fondly known as) did all her formal schooling. After three years of Law at UCT, Abby shifted gear and followed her own voice and moved to drama. She received her diploma in acting and presentation from City Varsity in 1998.

In June 1999 Abby landed the job of stand in for Angela Basset in "Boesman and Lena". This proved to be a tremendous learning curve. Abena soon landed her debut TV role as Lerato, in the long standing South African soapie "Generations". This feisty, soul searching character of an ex-prostitute was Abena's acting persona for 4 years. After which she moved to her next role as Kwezi in the controversial SABC 3 drama "This Life". Next was a Canadian Sci Fi drama "Charlie Jade".

She went on to gain invaluable theatre experience working in the SA theatre world in the acclaimed play "Honour" as Claudia. This play was Directed by Alan Swerdlow, with co-actors of legendary Fiona Ramsay and Graham Hopkins as lead acts.

Abena has participated in a number of short films, and has embraced
"The Mamtsotsi Bird" with her vast talent and supreme contribution. Her experience and professionalism make her a key contribution to any production.

Abena's first commercial for advertising agency Vutha was one that demanded a director who could not only get an exceptional performance from a six year old girl but required someone who was a unique storyteller teller. She affirmed their belief, by delivering a powerful and exceptionally emotive performance in the commercial.

Abena Ayivor is an accomplished actress both locally and internationally best known for her role in Generations as Lerato, and currently as Dineo in the popular soapie Isidingo. She will bring a fresh new perspective to the world of commercial directing. Her wealth of acting experience will enable her to bring out the best performance in actors.
