The Theatre is stuated behind the National Parliament in Waigani and next door to the New Zealand High Commission. Since 1914, it has provided a range of cultural activities. The current theatre opened in 1974 focuses on bringing live theatre to the public. The custom built theatre seats approximately 156 people and stages major productions every year as well as smaller productions.
The Moresby Arts Theatre is one of the oldest clubs in Port Moresby. With a long tradition of supporting the performing arts, the MAT is a community theatre. It stages its own productions, as well as productions from local schools, as well as international acts.
It also has extensive grounds, where they host a monthly craft market where you can browse through crafts form around PNG, as well as plants, and paintings by some of PNG's leading artists. It's held on the second Saturday of the month.
