Founded in 2007 and led by producers Misha Jaari and Mark Lwoff, Bufo has produced a number of films of which many have received international recognition. Based in Helsinki, the ambitious and thrill-seeking company concentrates on plot-driven and meaningful stories that can also entertain big audiences. Bufo's films all share the elements of clear artistic vision, innovation and high quality.
Bufo has produced such films as Concrete Night by Pirjo Honkasalo (Finland's official entry for the Oscars and Golden Globes in 2014), The Good Son (2011) by Zaida Bergroth and Academy Award winner Jörn Donner's The Interrogation (2010) and Armi Alive! (2015). Bufo's latest productions include Aki Kaurismäki's Berlinale Silver Bear Winner The Other Side of Hope, co-produced with Sputnik, Aleksi Salmenperä's Void and Juha Lehtola's The Human Part.
Bufo has also produced a number of short films (such as Reunion by Iddo Soskolne and Janne Reinikainen, which received a Special Mention from the Generation 14Plus Jury at the 65th Berlinale, and Helsinki Mansplaining Massacre by Ilja Rautsi that has been awarded at number of festivals) and tv series Northern Mishaps by Janne Reinikainen (2015). Furthermore, Bufo has been involved in a number of International co-productions, such as Veiko Õunpuu's "The Last Ones", Lauri Randla's "Goodbye Soviet Union" and Khadar Ayderus Ahmed's "The Gravedigger's Wife" ("Guled & Nasra" / "La Femme du fossoyeur"), Golden Stallion (Étalon d'or) & Paulin Vieyra - Critics Award at FESPACO 2021.
