The GoDown Arts Centre is the first arts centre of its kind in East Africa and plays host to various forms of visual and performing artists. The Centre was originally founded in 2003 in a renovated car warehouse in the Industrial Area of Nairobi. Currently, it contains ten separate arts studios, outdoor work areas, offices and workshops, a café/restaurant, and rehearsal and performances spaces. Performing arts practiced at the GoDown include theatre arts, dance, puppetry, acrobatics, musicians, and filmmakers. The Centre is regularly used for shows and exhibitions by both resident and non-resident artists, as well as for book launches, workshops, and rehearsals. Given its location in an industrial area, visitors will find it easily accessible by either public transport or by car.
