When a Chinese merchant brings a peculiar plastic holy figure of Our Lady to a neighborhood of Luanda, a mourning mother will seek peace, a committed barber starts a new cult and a stray kid will look for revenge for his lost friend. This bizarre urban tale will reveal a family and city facade full of resentment, greed and torment.

STATEMENT BY THE FILMMAKER OUR LADY OF THE CHINESE SHOP means a lot to me, not only because it's my first feature film but also defines and condenses an impulse that I have traced in my last short films: an allegory about power. - Ery Claver
DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT I see stories in which the camera captures reality, but the camera, unlike the eyes, does not tear, the camera is a cold slave to reality, it is not allowed to dream. Our Lady of Chinese Shop means a lot to me as a filmmaker, not just because it's my first feature film but also it defines and condenses an impulse that I have traced in my last short films: an allegory about power.
The relationship I have established with aspects of the human condition has been a determining experience for my construction as a filmmaker. The film claims in its context themes such as desires for revenge, secrets, servitude, abuse, violence, death, ghosts, politics, religious faith, it is through the power that these bases are manifested.
One day, at any time in Luanda, I see a container full of garbage. Around it, a group of jostling youths hover around, dust from a black car engulfs them as well. Inside the car, a full belly clutching the steering wheel. Up ahead a large billboard announcing a church, and inside it a mother prays for the memory of her daughter, a clamor muffled by the most potent cry of one or another innocent child singing, which frightens the hands of the church pastor absorbed in counting the money, change from another poor man, who, in spite of himself, rebels at home with the one he is supposed to love. The neighbor hears the screams but says:'To finish building my house, the materials, I don't understand anything, it's all in Chinese'".
This film is about the times we live in. If reality allows itself this paradox, then we fictionists are sleeping and we are not even dreaming. If reality does not accept lies, it must at least know how to live with the allusions, and allude, or else imitate reality.

Quando um comerciante chinês traz para um bairro de Luanda uma singular imagem de plástico sagrado de Nossa Senhora, uma mãe enlutada busca a paz, um barbeiro atento inicia um novo culto e um jovem desorientado busca vingança por seu amigo perdido.
Este bizarro conto urbano revelará uma família e uma fachada de cidade cheia de ressentimento, ganância e tragédia.

NOTA DO REALIZADOR Eu vejo estórias em que a câmara capta a realidade, mas a câmara, ao contrário dos olhos, não lagrima, a câmara é uma escrava fria da realidade, não lhe é permitido sonhar. NOSSA SENHORA DA LOJA DO CHINÊS significa muito para mim como cineasta, não apenas por ser a minha primeira longa metragem. Este filme define e condensa um impulso que tenho traçado nas minhas últimas curtas metragens: uma alegoria sobre o poder.
A relação que tenho estabelecido com os aspectos da condição humana têm sido uma experiência determinante para a minha construção como cineasta. O filme reclama em seu contexto temas como desejos de vingança, segredos, servidão, abuso, violência, morte, fantasmas, política, fé religiosa, é através do poder que essas bases se manifestam.
"Certo dia, a qualquer hora em Luanda, vejo um contentor cheio de lixo. À sua volta, um grupo de jovens aos empurrões o cortejam, a poeira do carro preto os agride também. Dentro do carro, uma barriga repleta a apertar o volante. Mais à frente um grande placard a anunciar uma igreja, e dentro dela uma mãe ora pela memória da sua filha, um clamor abafado pelo grito mais potente de uma ou outra inocente criança a cantar, que assusta as mãos do pastor da igreja absorto a contar o dinheiro, um troco de outro coitado, que contrariado revolta-se em casa com quem é suposto amar. O vizinho ouve o grito mas diz: ‘Para acabar de construir a minha casa, os materiais, não estou a entender nada, está tudo em chinês'".
Este filme fala essencialmente sobre o tempo em que vivemos. Se a realidade se permite esse paradoxo, então nós, ficcionistas, andamos a dormir e nem por isso estamos a sonhar. Se a realidade não aceita mentiras, deve pelo menos saber conviver com as alusões, e aludir, ou então imitar a realidade.
عندما يقوم تاجر صيني؛ بإحضار شخصية بلاستيكية غريبة للسيدة العذراء، إلى أحد أحياء لواندا، يُنذر حضورها بالمعجزات؛ حيث تحصل إحدى الأمّهات على السلام التي بحثت عنه طويلاً، ويغيّر أحد الحلّاقين من عقيدته الدينية، وينطلق الطفل زويو في رحلة بحثه عن صديقه المفقود. ضمن فيلم يستعين بالرمزيّة ليحكي قصّة أفريقيا الحديثة
