Children in Mayotte are taught in two different ways: one is secular and the other is religious. They speak Arabic at the Koranic school and French in the secular school, while they speak their common language, Shimaoré, at home. This system is painful for the children of Mayotte who have several more hours of class than their colleagues in metropolitan France. In order to better respond while respecting the beliefs of each, the National Education has decided to introduce Koranic classes in its rhythm.
