Unfortunately, we are not able to screen the film 'Dreileben' as announced, but therefore we will show a piece of German film history.
Angst Essen Seele Auf by Rainer Werner Fassbinder:
Emmi is around 60 years, widow and earing money as cleaner. Her routinary daily life ends immediately when she falls in love with the 20 year younger Ali, who is a Moroccan guest worker. Their wedding is a scandal and the couple suffers rejection from their environment: Emmis children feel ashamed, they neighbors are whispering, the colleagues ignore her and a shop owner denies her entry. But the marriage is also threatened from the inside. The crisis gets visible as Emmi discovers that Ali has an affair.
With the movie 'Fear eats the Soul' Rainer Werner Fassbinder follows his adaptation of the films by Douglas Sirk. The transmission of the Hollywood melodrama of Sirk's films into the German petite Bourgeoisie and the stylistic version of Fassbinder, created something new. This film contributed largely to the popularization of the New German Cinema outside of Germany.
