Max Dama is a Papua New Guinean artist based in Port Moresby. Like some other PNG artists, Max has experimented with a style of artwork that resembles the "dot paintings" that are famous in the Aboriginal art world in Australia. Max uses some colours that are lighter in hue in his work than many of the other artists, and utilises the dots in outlining traditional scenes in non-traditional ways.
Max won first prize in the adult category at the U.S. Embassy's Earth Day art competition in 2010.
We opened Earth Day with a celebration that included an art contest that was open to all residents of Papua New Guinea. This year, we chose "Protecting the Marine Life of Papua New Guinea" as the theme to highlight threats that marine environments face. - See more at: http://blogs.state.gov/stories/2010/04/30/us-embassy-port-moresby-and-national-capital-district-celebrate-earth-day#sthash.ri5iSzxU.dpuf
Max can be found at the monthly Ela Beach Arts and Crafts Market, where his artwork is on display and for sale.
