Raised on the North Coast of Jamaica, I have been taking photographs since I was able to press the shutter button on my parents Kodak 110 film camera. Now London based, I use photography to hold together fragmented memories as I rapidly lose confidence in their authenticity. I will be exhibiting my final major project at this year's Free Range Graduate Art & Design show.
The exhibition of photographs forms a series of intimate and voyeuristic photographs taken over two months in 2014. They are taken in the bedroom of my 14 year old daughter whilst she slept and therefore at her most vulnerable. The images portray quiet, atmospheric moods of fleeting stillness, subtle movement and muted textures in an almost dream like world. It is, at its heart, an ephemeral observation of the unnoticed passing of time in parenthood and the transience of her childhood.
Presently intrigued by vintage photographic processes, I am extending my photographic view by researching and experimenting with photograms and 'scanography' as well as exploring alternative methods of presentation. This has led me to attend workshops on bookbinding where I have already created my first hand made book using the Drum Leaf Binding method.
2014 also saw me self publish my first photo-book: 'Nothing without Me', a photo-essay inspired by my interest in how purpose-built structures are occupied by their inhabitants and how they affect the development of identities and impact on memories.
