Junho de 1960. Enquanto o Congo acede à sua independência, um jovem pugilista congolês, Samwa e o seu irmão mais velho, Nourou, chegam a Bruxelas para disputar um campeonato de boxe. Samwa bate-se fortemente, apesar das condições precárias, sob o olhar autoritário do seu irmão; até ao dia em que os promotores belgas do combate ordenam a Samwa que perca o combate.
