Julie Delpy was born in Paris, France, in 1969.
She has starred in many American and European productions since
she first featured in Jean-Luc Godard's Détective (1985) at the age of fourteen. Daughter of actor Albert Delpy and actress Marie Pillet, she first acted at 9 years old (as Julie Pillet) in Guerres civiles en France (segment "La semaine sanglante"), 1978.
She graduated from NYU's film school, and wrote and directed seven features.
She's been living in Los Angeles and New York since 1990. Julie Delpy became a U.S citizen in 2001, and she still keeps her French Citizenship.
