This man, considered the pionneer in his subject, was born in Sierra Leone in 1897.
Sales representative, he is sent to Cameroun in 1922 by a British holding. During his joureny he photographs the city, the markets, the landscapes. Filled with wonder for the quality of his works, the kings and the chiefs of the villages call him. He makes them pose and develops himself his photos. That way, he writes a page of the history of Cameroun. The years passing by, he makes of photography his profession. He creates his own studio in 1931 in Douala : Photo George is the first of that kind in the city. He initiates the autochtones to photography and devotes himself especially to the making of portraits. By photographing the traditional festivals, the meetings of football, the presidential visits or the official inaugurations, he constitutes incomparable files. Since his death, in 1976, Doualla Cyrille Goethe continues the work of his father.
