Catherine Hébert was born in Valleyfield, Canada. She entered an apprenticeship at RTBF, the Belgian public broadcaster. On returning to Montréal, she was hired as a researcher and assistant director for the documentary War Babies. Documentaries directed by Hébert include: Tea at the Embassy, Mangos for Charlotte and The Face I Once Had, which won Best News Report at the 2006 Prix Gémeaux.
