The Kigali Genocide Memorial
The memorial is the final resting place for more than 250,000 victims of the Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda.
It honours the memory of the more than one million Rwandans killed in 1994 through education and peace-building.
A place for remembrace and learning.
Amphitheatre
To mark the 20th commemoration of the genocide, a 1,200 seat amphitheatre was constructed at the memorial. The amphitheatre hosts memorial events, educational workshops, dramatic performances, cultural and historical events and film screenings. The amphitheatre can be booked by community groups by contacting the memorial here.
The construction of the amphitheatre was made possible thanks to support from the UK Department of International Development (DFID), the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the Government of Japan and the Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOIKA).
The amphitheatre was designed by John McAslan + Partners and marks the first phase of the expansion master plan for the Kigali Genocide Memorial. It was formally inaugurated on 8 April 2014.
The amphitheatre at the Kigali Genocide Memorial hosts a range of events throughout the year, from remembrance ceremonies to festivals for humanity.
