Three authors Boubacar Boris Diop, Nando Dalla Chiesa, Sophie Bachelier, meet here for the first time. Their culture and origins are different. Each evokes mothers of children far away or lost. Each portrays the violence of their absence cause, so hard and painful that it becomes a presence. Images slowly unraveled by Sophie Bachelier and texts penned by Boubacar Boris Diop and Nando dalla Chiesa alternate in the book.
