Curated by Lucrezia Cippitelli, Chiara Toti, Black History Month Florence
We are delighted to announce Sammy Baloji's first solo exhibition in Italy at Palazzo Pitti in Florence. Titled K(C)ongo, Fragments of Interlaced Dialogues. Subversive Classifications, the exhibition gathers recent works that dialogue with and reflect on various objects originally from the Congo, and now part of different museum collections in Italy. This project expands on research topics that Baloji had tackled in his residency at the Villa Médicis in Roma in 2019-2020.
The exhibition will run until June 26, and will resume from September 6 until November 27, 2022.
This project was made possible through the support of Flanders State of the Art, the Rolex Foundation, Arthub, TBA21, Vimar 1991, Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles, and Traumnovelle.
