For this new performance, the Poet found his subject matter in the words of the traditional Kanak speeches: genealogical speech, mourning speech, welcome speech, farewell speech… Each of them serves a specific purpose, with precise codes and forms (rhythm, posture, body language).

Paul Wamo collected and deciphered the founding principles of these "ways of speaking" specific to Kanak ceremonies. "Where form and substance become one, where a people expresses themselves with strength, accuracy and conviction, where you feel the untouchable and the invisible."

Ekoooo is not an ethnological restitution; it is a research for new sounds, a unique, original and powerful creation.

Ekoooo is coproduced by the Centre Culturel Tjibaou. The performance was a success at the Quai Branly museum in Paris in November 2013, where it was presented as part of the exhibition "Art is a speech".
